In it, the 28-year-old pop star traipses through a colorful house overflowing with glowing antique lamps, levitating books and blooming flowers, all the while singing about heartbreak and healing.

Her outfit for the video underscores the lyrics’ message, too. Gomez wears a pink puff-sleeved Rodarte dress ($2,645) covered with daisies, along with matching florals in her hair — a nod to iconic artist Frida Kahlo, according to Los Pérez’s Tania Verduzco and Adrian Pérez, who directed the clip.

“We wanted to have these connections, to create this look, and to play with the amazing flowers the way Frida did, but making it modern and cool for right now,” Verduzco told Vogue.

“The flowers on the dress, hair, and within the video all connect with this idea of renewal.”

Added Gomez, “I love the role nature plays in the video as well and how it represents healing and growth.”

But the literal centerpiece of the star’s look is the glowing sacred heart she wears pinned to the front of her dress, one of the many Mexican cultural references Gomez and her collaborators wove into the visuals.

“We designed the heart — we call it the Milagro in Mexican culture — and its light to be a metaphor for the healing throughout the story,” Verduzco told the outlet.

Said Gomez, “We all have the pain and the scars from various experiences we go through in life, but it’s really how we heal ourselves. Not only is it about leaving the past behind and forgiveness, but more importantly, it’s also about strength, moving forward, and starting your next chapter.”

A poignant choice of message for the singer, who’s endured her fair share of headline-making breakups over the years.
